Some Days Require Red

Terrified. I was terrified of opening my eyes. I just wanted to stay inside my dreams. In my dreams the elementals sing to me. They have poppies and purple hyacinths. We play together in the front yard where the grass is freshly cut. That pure, clean scent travels with me through my dream so that I can still remember it when I wake up.

I tell my mother about this dream.

“I heard them singing. I heard the Elementals!”

“What did they sound like?”

“Like this,” And then I imitate them, a high pitch, ethereal voice.

Screaming at the top of my lungs while riding in the back of a car

I spent a lot of time listening to the radio. Not by my choice. It was my dad who played the radio while we drove around Oakland. I got to know a lot of songs from the seventies and eighties. I’ve been trying to remember some of my favorites which took me on a long journey through old SF radio stations. KMEL! That’s was my radio station of choice when I got older. But with my dad it was more like KOIT or KBLX with songs like this.
